5 Tips for Healthy & Clear Skin

I get asked a lot about how I keep my skin clear and honestly I think the key to healthy and clear skin is simplicity. I don’t have a million products and I don’t have an intricate skin care regimen down to a science. I really don’t believe there is a secret to having healthy glowy clear skin. I like to keep it as simple as possible. I know, it’s harder than it sounds especially with all of the marketing for new and improved products every 5 seconds. Everywhere we turn there is a cream, a treatment, a pill, or even a tea claiming to help us achieve that “perfect complexion”. I like to keep it basic.

Here are my top tips for keeping your skin clear and glowing from the inside out!

Water is your BFF!
I aim to drink around 2-3 liters a day, I’ve been doing this for about 3 years now so I’m very used to it. It may take some time for your body to get used to drinking enough water but trust me, once you feel and see the benefits you won’t go back. Staying hydrated will not only help to clear up and hydrate your skin, you can also expect better digestion, more energy, and fewer headaches! (I used to get a headache almost every afternoon in high school, once I upped my water intake my headaches vanished. Now I only get them on rare occasions.)

Eat your greens!
Add in more veggies to your meals whenever possible! I eat some sort of greens with every meal. It’s easier than you’d think! I add a handful of spinach or kale into my morning smoothie or protein shake, which is an awesome way to set yourself up for success! The veggies and greens just like water are super hydrating! Also, all of the vitamins and minerals will fight inflammation and regulate skin cell production and turnover (AKA even when you do get zits they’ll heal and go away much quicker).

Stop Picking!
Picking at your skin will only inflame it more! Not to mention by picking and squeezing you’re spreading bacteria as well as potentially scarring that beautiful face of yours! I like to go to my dermatologist every few months for an extraction facial. It hurts pretty bad, but It can really help with those clogged pores! I highly recommend it if it’s in your budget.

Listen to your skin.
Just like we are told to listen to our bodies when it comes to eating and exercising I think being in tune with what your skin is craving is really beneficial! For example, when my skin is a bit irritated or dry from the weather or allergies I love doing a moisturizing face mask with vitamin C! my favorites are from the brands Dr. Jart & Leaders. If my pores feel clogged I do a clay mask! My absolute favorite thing to do is wash my face in the morning then slather on my favorite serum, the “Daily Serum” from Joanna Vargas also known as the “green juice for your face”, then just let my skin breath. I Try to go makeup free whenever possible!

Get your Beauty sleep.
Sleep is the best!!! I know you hear it all the time but try to get those 8 hours a night! Enough sleep will keep those dark circles and puffy away. *Pro tip… Change your pillow cases every other night to help prevent new breakouts!

I hope these tips are helpful! Let me know in the comments what your skin care tips and tricks are!
